Adobe Lightroom

Photoshop Lightroom is a photo management software from Adobe that helps you systematically manage huge collections of images that you've snapped with your digital camera, while allowing for extensive enhancements and edits to one, or many photographs at a time.

Lightroom can also be used to convert RAW images, although with each new model of camera introduced, you'll need to wait anywhere from 1 to several months before Adobe issues an updated RAW converter. Adobe may even decide not to include less popular camera models with their RAW converter updates.

Lightroom is also exceptionally good at printing your pictures to your home printer. I regularly use LR to lay out and print 4 photos to a single sheet of A4 / Letter photo paper.

Lightroom isn't capable of managing video clips, which is a pity, given that you can shoot footage and movies with most digital compact cameras and the newer Digital SLRs.

Importing photos from a card

I use the following settings in the Import Photos from Mass Storage Device dialog box to copy photos over from the memory card to my Mac's hard drive.
