I change the Background setting to Transparent so that screen captures don't include the Desktop. You might prefer to select White instead.
Forklift
I did not end up buying this software, but it has some very useful features you wouldn't find in any other FTP program. In this respect, it acts as a more advanced File Manager than the Finder.
For instance, it has an Application Deleter function that not only deletes apps, but removes related files and directories and puts all of them in the Trash. A Mac Application Uninstaller of sorts, if you will.
